Campaign in three words: Engagement. Representation. Change.
What’s the most important part of your manifesto?
Improving engagement through practical means, I want a YUSU petition site and visible physical changes happening on campus, particularly new bus routes to popular student housing areas.
How do you differ from other candidates?
Haha, the obvious thing being I’m a woman! But that aside, I think I’ve been more involved with actual change on campus due to YUSU than most, as women’s officer we’ve seen new lights fitted on Retreat Lane, which is a massive success.
What was your favourite thing the previous officer did and why?
I loved the fact that Kallum engaged with student nurses about wanting a 4th loan introduced. More vocational students can often be overlooked by unions due to them being off campus, but this campaign is fantastic, it makes perfect sense and I was glad to see Kallum get behind it!
What’s the most important thing about the role you are going for?
The YUSU President sets the tone and the standard for the entire union, it needs to be a person who can deal with YUSU bureaucracy but still be a down to earth student and keep achievable goals in mind.
How are you campaigning?
I’ll be all over campus chatting in person with as many students as possible for two weeks, I’ll also have a facebook page regularly updated with what I’m up to and my key policies.
What do you like the most about York?
York’s a great city. I love the quirky cobbled streets and finding new pubs and cafes in hidden corners.
What’s the best slogan you can think of for your campaign?
In the wise words of Elvis Presley, ‘a little less conversation a little more action please’!
What do you think about York Vision?
York Vision is a vibrant student publication and I admire its ability to really spark conversations on campus- often about some really controversial stuff!
