ComedySoc is the UK’s most active comedy society, with weekly shows, socials and workshops happening all year round. The great thing is that it’s all done by you, from panel shows to sketch comedy, stand up to improv. We write, produce, direct and perform all types of comedy, whether you want to be the next Mitchell and Webb or Lee Mack.
As well as putting on weekly shows we offer a series of workshops to help develop budding comedic talent. We have writers’ workshops for those interested in submitting and improving their sketches, stand up workshops where we allow people to test material before taking it to the stage and Open Improv, an evening of playing games and making scenes with our resident improv troupe The Shambles.
As well as our regular activities we often host big events and showcases, such as The Wentworth Comedy Festival and 24 Hours of ComedySoc (a show that literally lasted 24 hours). We also send shows to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe; this year we had successful runs with both The Shambles and Present and Correct – a collection of the best student-written sketches of the past few years performed by a cast made up of both old and new members.
Weekly shows happen every Wednesday at 20:00 in V/045, open improv happens in D/L/002 at 18:30, writers’ workshops happen every Saturday and stand up workshops happen every other Sunday. To stay in the loop with all of ComedySoc’s goings on sign up to our mailing list either at Fresher’s Fair or just by emailing [email protected]. ComedySoc is all about making people laugh; whether you want to write, perform or just see a great show, we want nothing more to than to see you smile.
