What’s the most important part of your manifesto?
For us, the involvement of societies is the most important part of our manifesto. We feel that they are a really important aspect of student life so it would be great to involve them in volunteering. Involving societies will also allow us to tailor volunteering to the interests of students and to benefit the CV of students, especially needed in the current environment where gaining a graduate job is increasingly difficult.
How do you differ from the other candidates?
There are two of us which we think as a pair will allow us to manage our workload effectively and to come up with double the amount of inventive and interesting ideas that students can be enthusiastic about.
What was your favourite thing the previous officer did and why?
We thought that the way the previous Volunteering Officers have built up volunteering over the past year is amazing, awareness of volunteering and student involvement has increased, and we hope to build on this over the next year. This is especially true for the mega college challenges.
What’s the most important thing about the role you are going for?
For us, student involvement is definitely the most important aspect of the role of Volunteering Officers. YUSU Volunteering projects do amazing work in the local community and it would be great to get more students involved in the activities they run!
How are you campaigning?
We plan to campaign via social media (look out for our Facebook and twitter pages!) and also do lollipop drops and leaflet drops. Those with 9ams over the next few weeks should look out for lollipops to sweeten your day in the library!
What do you like the most about York?
H.P. For me it’s definitely the college system. I think it gives new students a sense of community and a way to meet new people very easily. College social events and sports are also great for a new fresher wanting to get involved in what University has to offer and a stepping stone for getting involved in other societies and sports.
O.R. I like the fact that there are so many opportunities for students in terms of societies and sports in York. It’s also a lovely city which is a bonus!
What’s the best slogan you can think of for your campaign?
Volunteering, it’s down to us!
What do you think about York Vision?
We like Vision as it’s good to have two such contrasting student newspapers on campus, with Nouse as well as Vision.
