Candidate Profile: Hannah Brearley

During her time at York Hannah Brearley has become a well-known figure on campus. This comes as no surprise when you look at the roles she has held since joining the University. Brearley has been the YUSU volunteering officer for the past two years as well as Nouse chief sub-editor and treasurer to the Aerobics Society.

The first line of Hannah Brearley’s manifesto embodies the tone it carries throughout: “The future will be bright if you vote orange.” She offers no further explanation of how she is represented by the colour orange.

She outlines three main policies in her manifesto “supporting your achievements”, “rewarding your achievements” and “promoting your achievements.” Under which she gives a combination of some rather ambitious policies, including starting a “self-run international sports volunteering scheme” so that students can “travel across world, doing whatever sports or activities we want, with whoever we want.” These policies are coupled with some smaller policy suggestions such as creating a “colours scheme” to recognise and celebrate involvement.

Tipster’s odds 4/1

Brearley might not have come up with a waterproof manifesto but her previous experience as YUSU volunteering officer has proven she can take the responsibility that comes with office. This and her popularity on campus is bound to make Brearley one of the fore running contestants.
