George Offer has been announced as the new Halifax College President, succeeding Davedass Mootanah in an uncontested election.
The results were announced at Sunday night’s Halifax Christmas Ball and confirmed on Wednesday. Offer’s vice-presidents are Neil Dodd and Jonathan Pask. Although the HCSA were initially criticised for a poorly contested election, Offer leads the College Cup champions, and the university’s youngest college alongside a 14 person strong committee into 2012.
Offer told Vision, “I’m thrilled, grateful to have been elected, and looking forward to a fantastic 10th anniversary year for Halifax.”

There are so few members of this year’s committee Vision have even had to list the vice-Presidents twice!
We had two positions for Vice President of Events in this new committee due to the increased pressure for the biggest college to have the best Fresher’s Week!
haha, yes. The vice presidents have been mentioned twice, but anyone who knows Neil “Doddbox” Dodd, knows that his name should be mentioned at least twice in every article. Read Nouse’s article; they even stated that the Doddbox “savagely defeated Jonathan Pask to become Vice President of Events”. Don’t mess with the Doddbox.
To address a few concerns, the HCSA are aware that there has been a lack in advertisement of information on the elections this year. I did go round personally to every single house/flat with Dolly and George to talk to first years who were in their kitchens, polluting the place with mini posters like an Efe’s pizzaman (a few freshers thought that I actually was a pizzaman at first). However, the issue is that advertisement should have started earlier to give students time to think of what they wanted to go for. Also, more information on the elections should have been advertised, much more online. I think it is fair to say that these were definitely tasks set for the returning officer but that it was a committee failure as a whole in terms of responsiveness – especially when the returning officer has to make the posters herself for example!
It is not at all worrying however. I have had quite a few students come up to me to ask for when the by-elections are going on with interest to run for a position on the HCSA next term. I am positive that next year’s fresh committee will successfully advertise and fill all positions.
Why does Halifax get a president, but everyone else only gets a chair?
Is it just because Halifax is bigger?
