Glasshouse bar in menu overhaul

courtyardYUSU has revealed menu changes in bars around campus, coming in with immediate effect.

Announced via the YUSU Bars Facebook page; the “rejuvenated” Glasshouse menu will now provide pies, paninis, wraps and daily specials; including ‘Fish of the Day’ and ‘World Dish of the Day’ options. These specials will be publicised each day on Facebook, while a full menu and opening times can be seen here.

The previous menu had come under scrutiny from some students with rice, pasta or noodles the only options as “bases”.

Also unveiled were two new additions on offer in YUSU Bars, with the Courtyard replacing its £2.60 Poretti with the identically priced Amstel Lager, and both the Glasshouse and Courtyard selling Seabrooks instead of McCoys crisps.

The alterations have been met with general appreciation, with third-year Megan Johnson labeling them “necessary“ and saying: “It’s nice to have some variety around campus, always good to mix things up a bit.” Meanwhile, one concerned student questioned YUSU’s reasons behind the changes; asking “how much of this was dictated by NUS agreed contracts?”

Kallum Taylor also took the opportunity to distance YUSU from the recent horse-meat saga: “We would like to reassure all of you that our beef burgers are made in house from a very reputable local meat supplier.

“[With] regards the recent decline in campus geese… we have no comment at this time,” he added.

The news comes after Taylor announced YUSU Bars are due to Launch a ‘Games Night’ in the near future: “Just a chilled out one, nothing major, with some classic board games to boot. Thinking of a YUSU Monopoly Board for it too!” he said.

And the menu changes come as Taylor looks to build on his recent student satisfaction success; with over 80 per cent of freshers judging the union to be ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ and 40 per cent rated the SU as ‘excellent’; compared to just under 20 per cent last year.
