Former Vanbrugh Chair Kallum Taylor looks set to be announced as the new YUSU President this evening according to official exit polls. The polls indicate that Taylor will be joined by a new sabbatical team of Charlotte Winter, Chris West, Bob Hughes and Graeme Osborn.
The poll, conducted on a random sample of 100 students, show Taylor as achieving a difference of just 1 per cent ahead of Zahra Latif rounds of preference votes. The majority of votes for the presidential candidates are split between Taylor, Latif and ex-Goodricke chair Nacho Hernando.
Chris West, according to the poll, will triumph in the Student Activities race with 48 per cent of the vote in the final round against Hannah Brearley with Helen Marrison predicted to lose out in the second round. Incumbents Bob Hughes and Graeme Osborn, as predicted, look to be favourites to hold onto their positions whereas York Sport looks set to be claimed by Charlotte Winter with 62 per cent of the vote.
Voters use the Single Transferable Vote system, which enables ballots to list candidates in order of preference. If no candidate reaches 50% of first preference votes, then the candidate with the least votes is eliminated and second choices are reallocated and the winning quota reduced accordingly. This continues until one candidate reaches the quota. It is rare for a candidate to win on first preferences alone. The poll completes an example run of this system through.
However, these polls have been shown to be inaccurate before and last year predicted Lydia Blundell as President before Tim Ellis claimed the position on the night. Similarly the previous year Oliver Hutchings was expected to win, but Tim Ngwena secured a second term as president when the full results were announced. With votes being gathered from Monday, it is difficult to assess the reliability of the polls. 40,218 ballots were cast by 5,720 students across the voting period, which closed at midday today.

I predict an upset. Nacho for the win!
If my maths is right, close to 1000 votes were cast in the final few days. Unusual for an election, not sure what relevance that has but something worth observing none the less.
It’s just gotta be Zahra!
Even though it’s just going to further contribute to the Goodricke faction’s strength and corporatism in YUSU, we all know that Nacho is going to take it away. As a candidate, he is the best man.
Anyone who suggests that is a f***ing idiot.
and you were correct exit polls
