College: Alcuin
Year: 3
Subject: Maths and Finance.
Campaign in three words: Opportunities, Value, Excellence.
What’s the most important part of your manifesto?
The key policy from my manifesto is improving ever single York student’s employability. Opportunities available to students need to be better advertised and clearer.
How do you differ from the other candidates?
I feel like many people can get caught up in a YUSU clique. I would like to think that I am very much a down-to-earth student who is passionate about student well-being at this university. One of my key aims to make sure every student gets value for money.
What was your favourite thing the previous officer did and why?
Kallum’s fantastic effort when “Plugging the gap” is something I really admire. Gaining over 300 signatures in a matter of days shows how much he’s brought student politics forward at this university.
What’s the most important thing about the role you are going for?
The most important things for me are dedication and a strong personality. I would like to think I can bring both of these attributes to the role. Also, the president must be able to take a bit of stick, even if undeserved.
How are you campaigning?
Throughout the 2 campaigning weeks I want to reach out to as many students as possible. I will be innovative and am dedicated to make sure that everyone knows who I am, and what I’m about.
What do you like the most about York?
My favourite thing about the University of York is the fantastic collegiate system. This makes everything from sport to social events so much more fun and competitive. If you’re talking about the city, then only one word needs to be said… Willow.
What’s the best slogan you can think of for your campaign?
I am going to be running under the campaign “DYL or no DYL”. I want to make sure students get the best possible DEAL from this university.
What do you think about York Vision?
Throughout my 3 years I’ve had many friends who work for vision. The sport section is something I particularly admire, especially during College Cup.
No money, no parts, no DYL
