One of the downsides about University accommodation is that the rooms don’t possess much character or feel very homely, when you first move in. So that’s where you need to put your own touch on the room, whether it be with posters, plants or pictures. My recommendation here is a cactus, as they look nice, add something to the room, and don’t take much looking after. In the end of the day your room is going to become home for the next year, so make it as pleasant and appealing as possible.
Your first year will be full of new and exciting moments, which you really should make the most of. Take a camera, and capture those moments forever, so you can look back in twenty years and reminisce about the good old days when you were at university. And if that’s not enough, you can capture all the embarrassing moments when your friends are drunk, which will undoubtedly give you all a laugh the following morning.
Slippers
There’s nothing like wandering around in a pair of slippers, and they’re much comfier and more relaxing than a pair of boots after a hard day of lectures. In shared kitchens, it’s no surprise that things get dropped on the floor, and you don’t want to tread on something with bare feet, as I can tell you now it’ll hurt. Slippers are also useful when the fire alarm goes off at an unearthly hour in the morning, and you have to trot off outside in a half-dazed state.
