TWO STUDENTS from the Officer Training Corps (OTC) at the University spent the whole evening in an igloo last Tuesday to raise money for Help for Heroes.
First year students Lorin Bell-Cross and Ed Kemp managed to raise £100 in less than 12 hours after they substituted indoor heating for walls of icy snow. They have said that igloo-building conditions permitting, they will repeat the antics tonight to raise more.
The decision to do the fundraiser was described as a “split-second decision,” coming about after friends built the igloo in the day.
“The idea started out as a joke but then we realised we could make some money,” said Kemp, “I ended up sleeping in my boxers because someone said they’d pay me more money.”
Passers-by and friends gave donations throughout the night and the cash will be deposited at the Barrack’s donation box. The boys ended up staying in the igloo until 7.30 the next morning.
Lorin told Vision, “The JCRC elections were on that night so there were a lot of people hanging around on top of our mates spreading the word out.”
