Second-from-bottom Langwith were underdogs from the start, but created chances early on and almost took the lead when University 2nds player Bruce Starkey fired wide.
Tom Ragan hit the target for Halifax moments later, but Langwith’s goalkeeper was equal to his side-footed effort. Jack Beadle gave Halifax the lead after twenty minutes, blasting into the corner of the net from well outside the box.
Anton Ellis’ surging runs from deep were causing Langwith all sorts of problems and he got his name on the score-sheet from a tight angle. 2-0.
Halifax’s class was becoming apparent as Tom Patrickson header over from an Ellis corner, and they made their lead unassailable when Tom Ragan fired across the keeper with his weaker foot. The scoring was complete when Ragan found his younger brother, Elliot, who finished confidently.
The result leaves Halifax still trailing leaders Derwent, but now with equal goal difference, while Langwith remain within one win’s distance of bottom-placed Wentworth.
Bruce Starkey definitely didn’t moan like a child denied pudding, at all during the game
