Team captained: James 3rds
How have your team’s performances been in autumn and spring term?
Impressive, losing just one match (controversially) we’ve played some champagne football on the 3G over the past two terms, winning the league in the autumn term and finishing as close runners-up in the spring term.
What are your team’s strengths and weaknesses?
I’d say we are a combative group of players who don’t mind getting stuck in. We have pacy wingers that help to create chances but at times our finishing has let us down.
How strong is your cup squad?
I think we have the ability to cause a few upsets.
Who would you call your ‘key player’ and why?
Will Manners: rock-solid at the back and a major threat at set-pieces. That said, we have a few other hidden gems.
What are your thoughts on your team’s group draw? Which game are you most looking forward to?
It could have been worse, there are definitely some beatable teams in our group. Our game against Halifax 1s will be a huge challenge but one we particularly look forward to.
If you could beat any team in the final, who would it be and why?
James 1s, it would be hilarious. Imagine the look on Spurling’s face…
What will you do to celebrate if you win the cup?
Team trip to ‘dam.
If you could change one thing about the college cup, what would it be?
Move it to the 3G or make a 3G pitch on the Hes West campus, it would improve the quality of football.
Who is your team ‘BNOC’ and why?
Andreas Boedt, captain of uni basketball
Which team in world football are you most like?
Newcastle, I would say Pete Mabe and Moussa Sissoko were separated at birth.
What are your expectations and ambitions for College Cup 2013?
To get two wins and see what happens after that.
Vision says:
James 3rds have proven to be probably the strongest of the 3rds teams across the first two terms. This, and a quite friendly draw, makes them the most likely of the 3rds teams to cause upsets. Langwith 1sts, and the 2nds teams from Wentworth and Alcuin, will certainly have to work hard to overcome this James side. While challenging for a place in the Plate, as for any 3rds team, is a great achievement, James can hold realistic hopes of getting there.
