College Cup Countdown: Alcuin 1sts

Alcuin 1Name: Chris Boyd

Team captained: Alcuin 1sts

How have your team’s performances been in autumn and spring term?
When we have managed to put out a full team we have played well and have produced a couple of big results. However, we were slightly disappointed with a few of our performances when key players were missing.

What are your team’s strengths and weaknesses?
We are usually quite hard to break down but our weakness is our lack of goals scored.

How strong is your cup squad?
I think if everyone can play then we have a strong enough side to compete with any other team in the cup.

Who would you call your ‘key player’ and why?
Graham Kimber. He has an excellent first touch and has the ability to change a game for us.

What are your thoughts on your team’s group draw? Which game are you most looking forward to?
I was happy with the draw and think that Goodricke and Halifax will be our big games. We are mostly looking forward to the Goodricke game because they have beaten us twice this year so it would be good to show them that we will not be pushed aside easily.

If you could beat any team in the final, who would it be and why?
James 1sts. It’s usually a fiery contest when we play James and it’s the one most of us look forward to the most.

What will you do to celebrate if you win the cup?
I’m sure there will be a few pints drunk out of the cup.

If you could change one thing about the college cup, what would it be?
The final should be played at a professional stadium.

Who is your team ‘BNOC’ and why?
Harry Billimore. Who hasn’t heard of Harry Billimore?

Which team in world football are you most like?
Stoke City. We love to put a challenge in and make ourselves hard to break down. But our football isn’t always pretty.

What are your expectations and ambitions for College Cup 2013?
The last two years we have made it the quarter finals and then lost. So this season I want Alcuin to push on and make it past the quarter finals.

Vision says:
Alcuin 1sts will be pleased with their cup draw; only Halifax 2nds are likely to challenge the 1sts teams in Group 3 for a place in the top two. Despite having lost both games to Goodricke 1sts they will surely be aiming to come top of the group. Progression to the cup is not guaranteed, and so overcoming Halifax 2nds will be imperative to avoid dropping into the Plate. Alcuin will be banking on a fairy-tale run if they are to reach the final.
