Chris West is a History and Economics Student from Vanbrugh. Since joining the University he has become a prominent figure in the world of societies, taking on the role of treasurer in both the history and darts society.
“I know that the degree aspect of your university life is only a small part of the overall student experience. It’s the activities that you get involved in that will stay with you for the rest of your life. I believe my policies will increase student participation and make sure no-one misses out on these amazing opportunities York has to offer.”
In order to achieve this goal West sets out 3 main policy areas: to increase student interest in societies, support student enterprise and to make RAG even “bigger and better.” Under which he outlines some seemingly ambitious but well researched policy propositions.
One of West’s most interesting policies involves using student activities as another platform for career promotion. “In this tough climate, starting and running your own company can not only be a fantastic opportunity, but also make you stand out to potential employers. This is somewhere the union can offer real support, providing workshops to help people turn their ideas into realities and promoting company events”

West has some innovative ideas that stand out from those of his contestant’s. However, he lacks the experience in representation that some of his other contestants have. A very credible outsider.
Just voted for Chris, hope he wins. Not the big name, but has the best policies. The Student Activities will be an interesting test to see whether these elections are a popularity contest or a policy contest.
