Within the world of York Sport, Winter is a highly recognisable face, whether on the lacrosse pitch and netball courts or on the committee.
Unsurprisingly for the College Sport head, one of Winter’s core policies is the expansion of College Sport ‘extending some leagues as well as looking at other sports which could be introduced’. The creation of more Barbarian teams and the pushing for better links with university teams is a great policy. This should benefit both ‘university sport teams who can look for potential new talent and for college teams who can gain experience and coaching’.
Inclusivity and communication seem to be key policies from Winter. One such idea is introducing ‘termly meeting with Presidents of clubs with the York Sport Committee as well as creating a group which includes all of these members to ensure that clubs feel fully aware of the changes and happenings within York Sport.’
Her policies have the advantage of being feasible as well as potentially making substantial changes to the make-up of sport at York. With a large sports club and college base behind her chances of success are high.
