UYFC Men’s 2nds managed to defeat Bradford 1sts on Wednesday 24 October with a healthy plus twenty indicator which was most welcome after a depleted York side endured defeat against Hull 1sts the week before.
The first weapon to be fenced was foil which saw York 2nds fall behind by 14 points, a start which had the team fearing that the match would end up being a Waterloo.
However it turned out to be a Marengo as York stormed back with a strong performance in Sabre which closed the gap on Bradford which saw the score at 76-72
Bradford’s last bastion of resistance was overcome by York’s epeeists who finished the rout with a score of 45-29, with an overall match score of 121-101 to York.
York 2nds Captain Rob Phillips was delighted with the victory and commented that: “It was good to see the team get the result they deserve. Some of them had only been fencing for a year and yet they provided us with some of the highest scoring bouts. This is proof that our training has paid off and that the seconds are in for a really good season this year.”
York 2nds will now undoubtedly look forward to the challenge of fencing Durham 2nds away on Wednesday 7 November.
This article is clearly a literary masterpiece!
