The University of York Boat club enjoyed a fantastic time at Henley Regatta last weekend, as the women’s eight, and in particularly the women’s four thrived at the prestigious event.
Competing against top crews from across the country, the women’s four progressed through to the semi-finals, before finally being defeated by the crew from Exeter University.
The boat comprising of Erica Emond, Sarah Robley, Eloisa Cackett, Evelien Rutgers and Anna Lavelle set an excellent time in the qualifying time-trial to secure their progression through to the knockout heats.
In their first heat they defeated Kings College London, and then in the quarter-finals they produced another superb display to beat Cambridge University. Their journey eventually ended in the semi-finals, but the squad can be proud of their achievements.
The squad, made up predominantly of third years, have enjoyed a strong season, and this is an excellent way to cap it off, as they superseded any previous results that the club had attained at the prestigious Henley Regatta.
The women’s eight were also involved in the competition, and recorded an excellent time in their time trial. However the crew of Maddi Belsey-Day, Natasha Linyard-Tough, Mary Goodwin, Amy Finch, Alice Duston, Daisy Van Den Berg, Fran Howes, Johanna Child and Francesca Charlton-Jones missed out on qualifying for the heats by eight seconds.
The success at Henley caps off another promising year for the Boat club, which has seen them continue to develop their reputation as one of the most successful sporting societies on campus.
