Blind Date

Our Blind Date this edition takes place at ASK Italian, fitting the bill perfectly for 2nd year Physics and Maths student, George Daly, who came to Vision asking for a saucy date. So we set him up with Sophie Pierce, a 3rd year Environmental
Geography student. Did he get a pizza her heart? A slice of the action? Or maybe their date was simply too cheesy…

George on Sophie:

Hopes and fears before the date?

Talking too much, on irrelevant and boring subjects; friends frequently remind me of this trait I possess.

First impressions?
She was very attractive, but first and foremost she was friendly, conversation was effortless.

What did you talk about?
Began with “what’s your degree” but we mainly talked about our friends and families, funny and memorable experiences and of course our favourite pubs and bars in York.

Any awkward moments?
Showing up slightly late, although briefly describing how my brother and I play video games shouting across the landing wasn’t the best topic of conversation.

What did you have to eat?
Bruschetta to start. For my main, something with rump steak in the name, turned out to be a pizza with steak toppings; it was great. I found Ask very agreeable. I’d recommend it to others.

How did it end?
She was meeting friends in Phats so I walked with her there, but there we departed with a hug. If I had been keeping track of time better, I should have treated her to a drink in the House of Trembling Madness

If you met her in Willow, might one tequila lead to another?
Too many variables. I’m going to be a wimp and say no because I respect her.

Sophie on George:

Hopes and fears before the date?
The hope was to find true love. I feared I would get spinach stuck in my teeth.

First impressions?
First impressions weren’t the best. I turned up 10 minutes late as a girl always should, only to find he wasn’t there. I was half way through my first glass of wine before he appeared.

What did you talk about?
Literally everything, so much so it got to 12 o’clock and then the waitress told us we had to leave!

Any awkward moments?
On our date we realised we had many mutual friends; when I spoke to these friends later about the date, no one could work out who it was as I thought his name was Charlie!

What did you have to eat?
Veggie balls to start (these were great; I love balls) and for main I had seabass fillet which was very yummy. I’d definitely go again, it was a really lovely restaurant.

How did it end?
A nice hug, then I went out with my housemates.

If you met him in Willow, might one tequila lead to another?
That’s not my thing.
