Vision can exclusively reveal that Reverend and the Makers and Roll Deep have been announced as the headliners of Derwent’s Big D 2012.
Indie five-piece Reverend and the Makers are perhaps most famous for their debut single ‘Heavyweight Champion of the World’ whilst Roll Deep have had UK number 1 hits with ‘Green Light’ and ‘Good Times’ in amongst their never-ending line-up changes.
‘The Reverend’ returns to York after headlining Fibbers on a warm-up tour earlier this year, whilst Roll Deep also played in the city in February.
For the first time ever, the event will take place over three stages rather than two, with an outdoor marquee stage increasing the overall event capacity by 250 people.
The theme this year is ‘NeverlanD’; inspired by the world of Peter Pan. With themed areas including London, the Lost Boys’ Hideout, Mermaid Lagoon, Hook’s Pirate Ship and the Indian Camp.
Derwent Vice-Chair Beth Finnie, told Vision, “The launch party last night was a massive success – everyone went mad when we announced Roll Deep as the first act. We can’t wait to announce the next ones – it’s going to be a really strong line up!”
For the first time in recent years, there were few reports of the YUSU website crashing as students attempted to buy tickets, and the event is yet to sell out, although it is expected to do so well in advance of the event.

…who’s Roll Deep?
Well, I could be wrong, but I believe Roll Deep is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era
Reverends are so, so good live. Top stuff.
…will they play a sea shanty?
Not bad but Goodfest have got Benjamin Francis Leftwich this year AND the event is free.
More like Benjamin Francis BADwich.
Really? How tragic…
Derwent Vice-Chair Beth Finnie, told Vision “everyone went mad when we announced Roll Deep as the first act”, looking grim and sullen she continued “We can’t wait to announce the next ones”. Indie five-piece Reverend and the Makers are perhaps most famous for their debut single ‘Heavyweight Champion of the World’; as a result for the first time in recent years there were few reports of the YUSU website crashing.
…they basically booked the most famous acts that played York a month ago? Is that all the effort and strategy they put towards it? Explains why this year’s lineup doesn’t really compare to last year’s….
I’ve seen Reverend live twice, they’re a quality band. They were close friends with the Arctic Monkeys but turned down a similar record deal to the one that A.M got to retain control of their band, so their limited chart success such not put people off
I LOVE BASSHUNTER
Why is it not possible for anyone that is decent to ever play in york?
