A rubber duck that was catapulted into space thanks to a £1,000 Astronomy Society project has been lost over the North Yorkshire Moors.
A £100 cash reward for the person who finds it is being offered after the duck was sent into space on Saturday.
A series of updates posted on social media say that AstroDuck should have ‘landed by now’ but its whereabouts are unknown due to a ‘lack of signal for the GPS locators’.
Writing on Twitter on Saturday, they said: “There’s still no response from my locators. Let me know if anyone finds me and a parachute in the North York Moors! #FindAstroduck.”
A second update posted today added: “If anyone finds me and my equipment, there’ll be a £100 cash reward! I’m predicted to be in the North York Moors! #FindAstroduck”
Laceboy Motors Ltd, a sponsor of the project, is also offering a free MOT and service to anyone who locates it.
They said: “Laceby Motors and FCR Care sales (along with many others) were sponsors of a fantastic scientific project that was run by The University Of York Astronomy dept.
“They successfully launched a weather balloon, complete with Go Pro camera and a black box, to collect data and of course Astro Duck, to the limits of our atmosphere, yesterday.
“It had two GPS sensors on it for retrieval. At the moment, we can’t get a signal from them.
“It should have landed somewhere on/near the North Yorkshire Moors.”
