Another group of sports at York

There are still a few more sports to investigate, some of which are well known and others which are more of a mystery. If you haven’t found anything yet, then maybe there’s something here for you.

Cave and Pothole

Getting involved with YUCPC could be a once in a lifetime opportunity. This will enable you to visit some amazing places, and learn skills which were unimaginable to you before. This society provides you with the chance to experience moments of pure adrenaline, and utter jubilation, as you undertake tests which push your bravery to the limit. An exhilarating society to join, this will take you to caves across Yorkshire and further afield. The society meets every Thursday evening, and then goes out exploring every weekend.

Rounders

Open to all abilities, rounders is a relatively new society at the University of York. Playing rounders is great fun, helps to keep you fit and provides you with the opportunity to meet new people. Hopefully over the coming years the club will expand further and compete against other universities. Rounders is also played as a college sport at York, giving everyone the chance to get involved.

Snowsports

YUsnow is a fun loving society which specialises in a range of different snow sports. Many of you will have been skiing in the past, and this provides you a perfect opportunity to improve your skills. However it’s not just skiing, as a range of other activities including snowboarding are also available, at one of the largest sports clubs at York. The society runs regular trips to indoor slopes, and is open to all abilities from novice to expert. Competitively the society is thriving, possessing ski and snowboard race teams, which are amongst the best in the country at University level. To make it even better the society also run overseas trips to ski resorts, providing you with yet another fantastic opportunity.

Ten Pin Bowling

Ten pin bowling is a great deal of fun, and here at York you can transform this from just being a leisurely hobby, into a competitive thrill. The society welcomes everyone to join in, and plays matches against other universities. Tournaments are also held within the club for the enjoyment of members. More information can be found at York bowling.

Ultimate Frisbee

Now most of you have probably thrown a Frisbee at some time in your life, and thing well this is a piece of cake. Well if you head down to an Ultimate Frisbee session then you’ll quickly realise that this is a technical and competitive game, which tests both physical fitness and your skills, as I found out when I joined in a session. However it is a great deal of fun. The society trains three times a week and plays matches both indoor and outdoor. They often attend tournaments over weekends, and last year the women’s team finished third in the nationals. Moreover they defeated Hull 5-4 at Varsity with a remarkable comeback, and enjoyed a superb season. This really is a superb society to get involved with, and one which is going from strength to strength. For more information see their website.
