Politics, Philosophy and Economics student Abir Ahmmed’s ‘joke’ candidacy is unlikely to prove particularly popular outside of Politics students and lovers of the Lemon Press. Ahmmed’s satirical campaign spoofs this year’s American election, drawing on unpopular Republican pledges, with a manifesto ending with the slogan “Abir 2012. The one who can beat Obama.”
Carney finds an unlikely companion in Ahmmed, though it’s doubtful he’d appreciate the ‘joke candidate’ comparison, who also dislikes the union as it stands. Ahmmed suggests a little more drastic solution – abolishing YUSU completely. His reasoning behind this oddly draws from Republican candidate Mitt Romney’s unpopular Iowa State Fair flub “corporations are people too” and the need to “stop class warfare”.
Ahmmed’s principle policies include abolishing health and safety regulations, because “death is but the next great adventure”, and, channelling Newt Gingrich, establishing a moon base for the city of York.
The Tipsters Odds: 11/1
In such a highly contested election it’s unlikely Ahmmed will be drawing any laughs past the manifesto stage.
I, for one, welcome our new moonbase building overlord.
When the revolution comes, Vision will be the first against the wall.
Haterz gonna hate.
I can tell you now, The Lemon Press are not behind Ahmmed. If you actually looked at the candidate list it’d be fairly obvious who most of our members support…
Mr Ahmmed, sir, I take my hat off to you. I came in a tad sceptical, but your speech was glorious! Rousing and inspiring, not to mention funny. You might even get my first preference!
