“A Thoroughly Engaging Young Man”

TOM ELEFTHERIADES, a second year Linguistics student, has passed away.

Tom died on the Wednesday of Fresher’s Week, before the second year of his course had begun. Many people have been shocked by the news as his death was untimely and unexpected.

An email was sent out to all Languages and Linguistic students and to Tom’s fellow Vanbrugh college members.

Tom’s supervisor and professor Dr Carmen Llamas said: “Tom was a committed, talented and enthusiastic student who was popular both with staff and his fellow students.”

“He will be greatly missed,” she added.

The University and the Languages and Linguistics department have urged those affected by Tom’s death to speak to the University counselling team, or to their supervisors.

A course-mate of Tom’s said: “It was a shock to find out. I’m sure I can speak for us all when I say that he will be greatly missed in lectures and seminars. He was a great linguist.”
