In recent years York have narrowly missed out on a place in the BUCS top 40, but as we reach the end of the first term that target appears to be well in their sights, with York sitting a magnificent 34th in the overall standings.
Superb displays in a number of sports including badminton, fencing and lacrosse have left York with a provisional total of 610 points, and sitting 71 points ahead of 40th placed Aberdeen.
A delighted York Sport President, Cassandra Brown, told Vision: “’I couldn’t be happier with York’s current position in the BUCS league.
“Sitting 34th is a HUGE achievement for York – we’ve never been this high before, and in fact, before this year, we’d never sat higher than 36th during the league, let alone finishing the term in such a high place. This is testament to the hard work York’s teams have put into this term.”
Unsurprisingly the overall standings are led by the sporting heavyweights of Loughborough, who have topped the table every year, whilst they are followed by Durham, Bath and Nottingham respectively.
Meanwhile York’s Roses rivals Lancaster sit in a lowly 45th place, 11 spots behind the White Rose, whilst cross city institution York St John languish down in 98th place.
Last year York finished in 43rd place, as despite the best efforts of Charlotte Winter’s #Top40 campaign, the institution failed to make the desired progress.
This year however it appears as if the progress and facility investment of recent years is coming to fruition, as the University looks set to record its best BUCS finish ever.
