Vanbrugh made it three wins on the trot with a convincing performance against Goodricke.
During the first half of the game Vanbrugh were dominant, often getting in behind and creating numerous chances throughout. However, Goodricke ‘keeper Haigh was having a great game and pulled out a few top saves to deny Vanbrugh. The best chance fell to Vanbrugh who hit the crossbar in the first half. The two sides went into the break at 0-0, though Vanbrugh should have gone in ahead.
Vanbrugh came out firing on all cylinders in the second half, but surprisingly Goodricke were the team to take the lead with a great goal early in the second half from Billy Bruce. Vanbrugh, however, equalised soon after through a volley from fresher Andriy Tabas.
Vanbrugh then really stepped it up a level and applied extreme pressure, with their next goal coming from striker Liam Sides. He picked it up and twisted Goodricke’s defence inside out before smashing it into the top corner. That’s two goals in his last two games now, did someone say golden boot? Vanbrugh’s third came through 1sts debutant Callum Long, who latched onto a great cross from Matthew Potts and tapped it in from inside the 6-yard box, securing the three points.
With three wins in four, Vanbrugh look set for a great season and are right on the heels of favourites Derwent and James. They face a strong Derwent side next week, which should test how strong they really are this year.
