Not all tech news makes the cut, kids – it’s a tech-eat-tech world out there. Fortunately, week by week, we’ll be salvaging some of those news stories and putting them all into one place, every Sunday. That’s right, we’re working on our day off for you keen tech readers – all ‘thank you’ emails welcome.
Now, for the Tech News Roundup this week:
Announcements
Homefront: The Revolution – Poor America. Not only have they had to suffer under the hand of an oppressive Nazi regime, they now have the Korean People’s Army to deal with! Set four years after the original, this Red Dawn-style FPS (set for PS4 and Xbox One) not only boasts a new setting and characters, but also a new development team. The revolution never looked so good.
World’s largest gaming collection for auction – If you ever spend your days looking at your Steam library thinking, ‘I have a problem’, think again – you are abysmal to Michael Thomasson’s 11,000+ gaming collection. However, if you want to redeem yourself, that gaming collection is up an auction until June 15th… for about $700,000!
Uncharted 4 directors confirmed – After the unfortunate news regarding the departure of various Naughty Dog employees, it seems the developer company finally has its silver lining – the confirmation of Uncharted 4‘s directors. The brains from last year’s The Last of Us are set to helm Nathan Drake’s latest adventure, so expect to see Drake looking gruff and sporting a beard any day now.
Mortal Kombat X – A new Mortal Kombat game is coming to Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, Playstation 4 and PC in 2015. The WiiU version seems to be glaringly absent from this list, but considering that neither of us own one, we can say with great confidence that we won’t be losing any sleep over it.
Releases
Murdered: Soul Suspect – Developed by Airtight Games, this third-person story stars the ghost of detective Ronan O’Connor in a case to solve his own murder. Think L.A. Noire except no wise-cracking sidekicks and you’re dead. Oh, and did we mention it takes place in Salem? This and witches are the reason we haven’t been to Salem. Now on PC, Ps3, Xbox 360, PS4 and Xbox One.
Wildstar – For anyone craving a supplement of either Jak and Daxter or World of Warcraft, your prayers may have just been answered. Carbine Studios, the assistant developer of games like Warhammer: Online, have made a bonkers MMO that sees players roaming the planet Nexus and, well, doing their MMO thang on PC.
Tomodachi Life – After its controversy concerning same-sex relationships, Nintendo’s Animal Crossing-The Sims crossover has been bathing in hot water for quite some time. However, if you want to take a swim with it on 3DS, it’s out this week and waiting for you to be angry at its lack of diversity. Or to play it, that too.
We don’t have any other interesting releases for you this week, folks, so in honor of E3 next week, enjoy some of the most cringe worthy E3 moments of the past instead.
Sales
Xbox Live Games with Gold – Put your wallets away, Xbox gamers, there are five free games on Games with Gold this month! Whether that be Halo: Spartan Assualt, Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, Dark Souls, Charlie Murder or Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, there’s plenty to get your mitts on.
Origin 70% sale – Sadly, PC gamers may have to get theirs out (wallets, of course). Origin aren’t giving games away for free, but they sure as hell are discounting a lot of their EA title’s by a mahoosive 70%. It’s not often we say mahoosive, so it must be good.
Stardock 20th anniversary sale – Just like the folks at Bohemia Interactive, Stardock are celebrating their birthday pretty selflessly. With up to 75% off all of their titles, as well as 66% percent off their six-title pack, it’s a happy anniversary from us gamers!
Uplay E3 sale – In celebration of the Electronic Entertainment Expo next week, Uplay is holding a sale with titles up to 75% off. For anyone who can tolerate Uplay, there are some good deals to be had.
Special Mention
Pepper, the emotional robot – Japanese firm Softbank has unveiled a robot called Pepper that can supposedly read emotions. The robot draws from a data cloud, allowing it to understand gestures, expressions and tones of voice. We believe that this is yet another example of technology taking the place of human interaction and we won’t stand for it. Now, excuse us as we check our Facebook for the umpteenth time today…
