Campaigning for the latest YUSU Election has begun.
Placards, banners, Twitter accounts and Facebook pages have been set up as more than 50 candidates battle to convince students to back them in one of the 18 positions up for grabs.
Full-time officer candidates will kickstart their next stage of action tonight at the Roger Kirk Centre where they will vie for votes in a special debate chaired by the current University chancellor and former BBC Director-General Greg Dyke.
Part-time officer candidates will make their plea to voters via the internet in a special hustings this Friday.
Undergraduates and postgraduates will go to the polls during Week 8 to decide their student union team for the next academic year.
Candidates will be hoping that more students decide to cast a ballot this year after less than 34 per cent decided to last year.
An online poll for York Vision currently says that 40 per cent of students definitely plan to vote.
But if you’re to believe the Vikings, none of us will have a chance to select our YUSU team as the Earth is due to “open up on Saturday and release those patiently waiting in hell”.
The results of this year’s YUSU Elections will be announced on Friday 28 February.
