College Rugby: Halifax 22-10 James

Halifax continued their unbeaten season against James on Wednesday, finally triumphing 22 – 10 in a massive matchup on a darkening 22 acres.

They never surrendered an early lead, going into the half-time break two tries to one, mainly from the sharpness of their back line in offense.

Momentum in the game was often decided by the set piece – James muscling ahead in the scrum on both teams put-in, whilst repeatedly losing ball at the lineout – which meant possession remained even for most of the game, and as a result seizing opportunities proved the decider for the two sides.

James unfortunately didn’t turn all their possession into points, suffering heavily from some dropped ball in the opposition’s 22, as Halifax continued to prove the most clinical team so far this year – seeming to finish breaks more often than not – finishing the match with four tries to their name.

The hardest fought game yet this season without doubt, passion and skill from two squads hoping for great things this season, both shall undoubtedly be eyeing their Derwent game hungrily.
