Oompa loompas, flappers and big babies

This week the freshers events of my college have finally been announced! I’m not sure what other college’s events are like but the Halifax events are spot on. I am a fancy dress enthusiast so the events involving costumes are my favourites. Five of the week’s events at Halifax are fancy dress, The events are: Charlie and the chocolate faxtory-dress as an oompa loompa, the great faxby- dress as a prohibition era flapper, viva Las Vegas- dress all American, big baby bar crawl- 1st years are to dress as babies whereas 2nd years dress as an occupation and 3rd years dress as OAPs and finally the seven deadly sins- each court goes as a different sin, my court is envy!

The event I’m most excited about is the great faxby, mainly because I already have a flapper costume which I wore to my friends 18th birthday party. Also it’s an excuse to dress up all fancy, put on make-up and drink posh cocktails! The event of the week at Halifax which isn’t fancy dress is the sound clash, this is the event to kick it all off! There’s a silent disco, live acts and lots of good times to be had, going to be great getting to know all my house mates and bonding over drunken escapades.

As you can see my collection of jumpers was tricky to pack

I was very eager so I managed to get tickets to Live and Loud, Viking Raid and Comedy Night. These all sound like fabulous events, I’m especially looking forward to the comedy night because Seann Walsh is performing along with Sara Pascoe and Romesh Ranganathan! I love all of their comedy and all the tickets have sold out so I reckon it’s going to be a great night.

I’ve actually been really impressed with York’s bookings in general, for live and loud there is Katy B and the Pigeon Detectives. Personally I’m not a massive fan of either but my sister got incredibly jealous when I told her Katy B would be playing and to be honest any music is good for a dance when you’ve had a few drinks. Today I heard about the ‘student blowout’ at the Coppergate centre in York on Monday the 7th. It sounds like the discounts could provide a few bargains so I’m hoping I’ll find someone who’s as much of a savvy shopper as I am to join me on a trip!

As seen as it’s officially 10 days till I move I’ve finally began packing! However I’ve had a few issues trying to get all my clothes into one suit case and I had to question my sanity when I realised I was taking 10 pairs of shoes. My theory is you can’t be too over prepared so it’s better to pack way too much than way too little. To be honest, I just hope I can fit it all in the car!
