York men’s seconds Badminton team put in a strong performance to ease their way past their Red Rose opponents at Roses 2013, with the match finishing 6-3 in York’s favour.
York got off to a strong start, winning the first four encounters to take a big lead. However Lancaster were able to scrape one back with 3rd pairing Mickey Murtaugh and Johnny Tam falling to the Lancaster first pairing in a three end encounter 19-21, 22-20, 17-21. Despite this small set back York won the next matchup to go 5-1 in the lead and secure the points for the White Rose.
In the latter part of the match York began to flag a little as the game began to run over its allotted time slot, with the Badminton first teams begin to look restless on the sideline’s, anxious to get out for their pre-game warm up.
Lancaster won the next two games; including a surprise victory over York’s first pairing of David Gardiner and Tan Jun Chuen, who lost in one of the games few two end matches 13-21, 18-21.
York however breezed through the final game with Rolf Choutan and Jay Lee easily seeing off their challengers 21-13, 21-9. Finally ending the match at a little over 5 o clock by a comfortable three game margin.
