College Cup Countdown: Goodricke 2nds

Goodricke 2Name: Fabian Ashurst

Team captained: Goodricke 2nds

How have your team’s performances been in autumn and spring term?
We had a few problems at the start, but managed to turn it around after an inspired comeback from 3-0 down in the snow against Derwent. We’re coming into some form now.

What are your team’s strengths and weaknesses?
Our strengths: industry in the middle with Gillbanks and Kostas. Positioning sense of centre half Chris Osbourne. We’re a side who likes to play football and the surface should suit us. Weaknesses: we haven’t really scored enough goals at times this year, and we’re not the tallest side.

How strong is your cup squad?
More balanced than some of our teams this year. We have a midfield and front line that love to get the ball on the deck and play the nice football. And our back five looks more settled.

Who would you call your ‘key player’ and why?
Probably Rob Young, as we will be looking to him to lead our scoring.

What are your thoughts on your team’s group draw? Which game are you most looking forward to?
We pretty much have the group of death. We have the holders, and Derwent look to have another strong 1sts team. Highlights look to be the games against James 2nds and Halifax 3rds, but I fancy our chances against any 2nds team. And last year, we were minutes away from a draw with Derwent 1sts, so will be looking for revenge there.

If you could beat any team in the final, who would it be and why?
Vanbrugh 1sts, nothing like beating the holders.

What will you do to celebrate if you win the cup?
Open top bus tour round Hes East.

If you could change one thing about the college cup, what would it be?
Proper refs.

Who is your team ‘BNOC’?
Ben Campbell.

Which team in world football are you most like?
England, pressure from the fans, problem with WAGs.

What are your expectations and ambitions for College Cup 2013?
Would love to qualify for the main competition, but winning the plate would be a decent consolation.

Vision says:
Goodricke 2nds will be a dangerous team in Group 4, but the tough draw into the ‘Group of Death’ will mean that qualification to the Cup knockouts may be a bridge too far. With James 2nds and Halifax 3rds also aiming high, Goodricke will probably be happy if they can ensure qualification to the Plate.
