Welcome to Roses 2013! In less than two weeks time, the whole of campus will be engulfed in the sporting battle between York and Lancaster, as we have the honour of hosting the largest inter-University sports competition in Europe.
Between Friday 3rd and Sunday 5th May, campus will be awash with all things Roses related, as events are held in a diverse range of sports from the mainstream football and rugby, to the less conventional sailing and dance. There will also be events such as University Challenge and an array of other entertainments, so there really will be something for everyone to get involved in.
I must encourage everyone to embrace the spirit of Roses 2013, and turn up to support and cheer on York’s sport teams even if you’ve never watched that sport before. You can make the difference, and it’s the atmosphere that you create as well as the spectacle put on by our athletes that makes Roses so special.
Last year York made the trip to Lancaster, where home advantage paid dividends as the Red Rose prevailed, but in this 49th edition of Roses, let’s make sure that we commemorate the University of York’s 50th anniversary with a Roses whitewash.
You can follow all of the action here on York Vision’s Roses minisite, as we bring you previews, reports, live updates and much more. Don’t miss it.
