Trusdays Are Over!

The new opening days will see to an end to “Trusdays”, officially called Bandwagon at Tru, as well as York St.John’s official night on Wednesday.

“Trusdays”, York University’s official Tuesday night, will cease under cost-cutting measures which will see Tru Nightclub only open between Thursday and Sunday.  The news comes at the same time of unconfirmed reports that The Gallery Nightclub is set to close from Week 6, either for refurbishment works or indefinitely.  Both clubs are owned by Luminar Group Holdings plc.

In a press release obtained from YUSU, the reason given for the cancelled night is due to the sale of the club by Luminar. The release in full states:

“TRU has closed on Tuesday nights for the foreseeable future having been sold by Luminar Leisure. In light of this, Club Salvation has put together an impressive offering and will be stepping up as the University of York’s Official Student Night. The night will be only open to University of York Students and their guests. Salvation has a similar capacity to TRU, but will be staying open much later until 4.30AM.

Club Salvation presents two floors, with the main room playing anything and everything from mainstream chart to dubstep, all genres and student anthems, with lots of crowd games and give-aways. The 2nd floor room will be playing alternative music and all the indie classics past and present. YUSU Societies will be showcasing their music as well!

Entry will be cheaper than TRU at £3, with a great range of drinks offers including, Jagerbombs £2, all VK Flavours & Carlsberg bottles £1.50, Vodka, Archers, Malibu, Bombay Sapphire + Mixer all £2. (Double Up for £1 extra), Corky’s shots all £1, Double Vodka and Kick Energy £2.90, as well as a range of non-alcoholic drinks offers.

You’ll have the chance to be snapped by the Salvation Papparazzi, but don’t worry there’s no dress code: anything goes. Q-Jumps will be available, and the first 100 people to come to the Courtyard on Monday next week will receive free tickets for the Tuesday Week 3 launch night.”

It is still unclear who Luminar sold Tru Nighclub to. At the time of writing Luminar were not available to comment.

Darren Webb, a first year History student, told Vision “It’s the end of an era. I hate Salvation, it’s really chavvy.” Club Salvation will take over Tuesday nights in Week 3.

Tru, previously called Toffs, reopened in May 2008 following a £1M refurbishment.

  1. Salvation!!! WHY? Its full of scummy little druggies and is not a nice place to go, it smells and the DJ’s suck!!! Think we should get a petition going to get Trusdays re-opened! Long live TRU!

  2. I actually went there a couple of weeks ago and it was pretty good – it can be a bit chavvy but if its only open to York Students then it probably will be ok…

  3. Salvation is alright, its biggest problem is low student attendance. If it gets a few people through the door it should be a pretty decent night.

  4. If a load of students start going to Salvation on Tuesdays then surely it will be alright!

  5. Have they not done student nights before? Thought they had a Monday thing a bit ago and it wasn’t that good and they had Wednesday night I went to a few times and they kept letting chavs in to make up the numbers and make it look busy

  6. Freshers already think I’m crazy when I talk about Toffs, what’re they going to think when I wax poetic about a club that isn’t there in any form whatsoever?

  7. Where will I get my fix of pop rap and Pendulum?
I have never been out passed 3am so atleast Salvation will be a new experience!
