York 2nds stormed to a tremendous 52-22 victory in their last home match of the season after a tense start against a tough Teesside team.

York made an initial blasting start, with strong and consistent passing from their centre pass and a quick turn over of the Teesside centre. Nonetheless, the first quarter proved to be a difficult one for York.

The girls struggled to grasp their normal fighting spirit and allowed the Teesside team to stay in contention. Teesside proved strong and physically powerful, yet the York side remained resilient in their defence up court to maintain a 9-9 draw at half time.

Despite Teesside still proving problematic for York throughout the court, York picked up their game and stormed into the second quarter.

Carrie Green made some fantastic interceptions as goal keeper and allowed the girls to capitalise on their turn overs. The 2nds team showed the advantage of home turf and powered ahead to a 23-13 lead.

At half time, captain Elissa Bryan made a huge change to the team line up, placing Eleanor Bell-Jones in as goal defence and making a complete switch in centre court.

The change proved successful as York dominated the game, not allowing the Teesside girls to score a goal for the first ten minutes of the second half.

A fall from one of the Teesside girls gave a momentary break to the fast paced and exciting game. The defensive combination of Ellie and Carrie, despite their lack of practice in this combination, proved extremely effective. The girls made interception after interception and destroyed the initially powerful Teesside shooting pair.

The fourth and final quarter saw Samantha Hall brought in at goal shooter. In combination with Amy Moll’s unstoppable movement and shooting, they proved to be a killer pair for the last fifteen minutes of the match.

Diana proved useful and dynamic in the attacking end of the court feeding some fantastic balls into the shooting third.

The final score of 52 goals to 22 was a clear reflection of the team spirit and fight the Yorkshire girls put into the game. The improvement of the team was evident in their swift, consistent passing and movement up court and their communication which has evidently improved over the season.

This impressive win puts the girls in an excellent position for their final game of the season next week against Leeds Trinity.
