VOLLEYBALL – The University of York Volleyball club is one of the most exciting and successful to be involved with, and it caters for all abilities. There are three teams which compete at BUCS level – two men’s and one women’s. Training is twice per week on Sundays and Thursdays in the sports tent, which is just next to the campus sports centre. There is also a beginners’ session on Tuesdays; perfect if you want to try volleyball for the first time. For the exact times, check the UYVC website.
Each year the team competes against Hull in February and Lancaster in the Roses Tournament, during May. In addition, there is also a college volleyball tournament held annually, which is great fun to take part in. There is no shortage of opportunities at UYVC and if volleyball is up your street, then join!
BASKETBALL – The University of York basketball club is a growing, vibrant organisation which offers lots of opportunities for students at all levels. There are two men’s teams and one women’s team competing in BUCS, all of whom put in sterling performances last campaign. The club also partakes in the Leeds league, a wider competition for those who really want to take things seriously.
If you want a more laid back session, then why not try out college basketball on Sundays from half past 5? It’s a great way to make friends and try new things out, and it is highly recommended.
LACROSSE – The lacrosse club is one of the biggest and most vibrant clubs at the university and there are loads of opportunities to join. The club both trains and competes on 22 Acres, just beyond James College. Fresher taster trials will be held throughout week 2 – for specific days and times, check the website.
The club has two teams each for both men and women, so if you’re part of it you’re bound to get a chance to show off your talent. There is also a one-off college lacrosse tournament in the summer term which is a great opportunity for everyone to take part and have fun.
FUTSAL – One of York’s most exciting up-and-coming sports is futsal, or indoor football. The sport is faced paced and intense; perfect for those who want to increase their fitness or just want to have fun. The club was the first of its kind in the UK and they have two teams have two BUCS finalists for two of the last three seasons. So expect plenty of success to come your way if you get involved, and check the Facebook page for updated information on training times.
