POOL AND SNOOKER – The University of York Pool and Snooker club is one of the best-performing clubs at national and regional championships, and is an extremely enjoyable organisation to be part of. Practice sessions are held every Wednesday and Sunday from 1pm until 4pm, and are just £1 to take part in; the best value in the entire city.
They are based at the Cueball Centre on James Street, which also hosts six snooker tables. Monday League pool is a competition held within the university every week and is one of the most exciting tournaments around. If you like your billiards, you have to join this club!
ARCHERY – The Archery club at York is a small, but vibrant, group which offers opportunities for both beginners and Robin Hood wannabies. During the autumn and spring terms, their practice sessions are held in the sports hall, while in the summer the venue is behind the library. Times are Tuesday from 1.30pm until 3.30pm and Saturday from 11am until 2pm.
KARTING – Karting is one of the most thrilling sports at York, and the club here is going from strength to strength every year. The club races at a range of local venues including Monks Cross, Hull and Leeds. Furthermore, if you become good enough, you could also compete in the British Universities Karting Championships (BUKC). Here, the club travels to some of the best racing tracks in the UK against the cream of the country’s racing crop.
POLO – The University of York Polo Club trains on Wednesday afternoons and Sunday mornings throughout the year with at the White Rose Polo Club, which is a short drive away from the university. They also train with an HPA qualified coach, Tony Wesche. After Easter, the club is able to train on the grass.
The season culminates with the SUPA Akuma University National Championships, held at Offchurch Bury Polo Club in Leamington Spa every June. This is a weekend packed with polo, socialising, sunbathing and partying. York has competed here for many years and is very successful, both on and off the pitch.
