Alright there York! How do?
You’ve picked a pretty sound time to be studying at York! Right on the university’s 50th birthday! Congratulations on being born in the right year, and congratulations on making one of best decisions that you’ll probably make in your life. Fact.
Studying here at one the UK’s leading universities – and one of the world’s best young universities – will certainly arm you with a fantastic degree to carry out into the ‘real world’, leaving you with more prospects than most.
But there’s much more to gain from life here too, loads more. That’s where YUSU, your Students’ Union, come in.
My name’s Kallum – that’s Kallum with a K – and I’m the President of YUSU. This year, I’ll be working with the rest of your elected Officers, College Chairs and hopefully yourselves, in making sure that your time here is a memorable one – for all of the right reasons.
Every student here is a member of YUSU, and YUSU has a part to play in almost everything we do here, so please do keep that in mind.
Whether you’re in one of our 180 societies, playing for one of our 60 sports clubs, getting involved in our numerous volunteering projects, raising money for charity, going to our official club nights in town, organising huge college events or simply buying a drink at one of the YUSU bars, your opinion counts.
This is no doubt enhanced with £9k fees now in place. Your voice as students should be heard more than ever before.
This year I’ll be fighting to increase value for your money, boost your employability, hold the best S.U. events in the region, and make YUSU even more visible to the ‘average’ student.
Less heavy stuff now; it’s a great time to study here at York, with the birthday and all of that. I want us to go absolutely huge in celebrating this, and show the rest of the world what we are about. Rest assured, I want YUSU to not only do the serious things well, but also to have a lot of fun when we get a good excuse to do so!
