Roses men’s squash: Lancaster 5-0 York

A disappointing York 2nds fell to a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Lancaster, meaning the white rose miss out on 2 potentially critical points.

In a less-than-spirited match, York got off to the worst possible start as Lancaster’s Ben Jones beat Daniel Francis 3-0. It was an uninspiring defeat and, although some decent shots were played throughout the three games, they were hardly noticeable or important as the match flew by.

To win it, a slice from Jones drifted gently to the ground – exactly like the way a bowling ball wouldn’t – and it proved just too much for York’s Francis.

John Perrolls put up a bit more of a fight on court 4, but could only manage one game as he fell 3-1 in the hands of Sebaz Afzal. TheLancaster man’s constant pace and movement proved a key role in his win, and provided the platform for the home side to go on and win comfortably.

York, going into the contest, looked hungry – they hadn’t been fed for a while. And that might have been a contributing factor as Jack Ross saw off York’s Louis Sandys 3-0 which meant it was ultimately impossible for York to come back, before Nans Dixit lost out 11-2, 11-9, 11-6 to seal a dominant Lancaster’s victory.

It was a similar result to the women’s squash and, despite battering Lancaster last year and the men’s 1sts winning this time round, it was not a particularly successful sport for York this weekend.
