I have a little confession to make; a guilty secret of sorts. I am in love. Not with man or object though. But with an entire experience.
Nuts?
Completely!
Denial?
Absolutely!
The experience allows me to struggle through an entire spectrum of emotions. From abject misery to elation beyond that which a Roger and Hammerstein musical can submit you to!
I am in love. With bingo.
Oh bingo. There was once a game called bingo….
Mecca Bingo to be precise. York’s Mecca Bingo.
“Bingo?!” you cry! Yes, bingo! Bingo the quirky ‘you’re so cool you’re doing it bingo’ is, I promise, THE NEXT BIG THING. With the rise of companies such as The (amazing) Underground Rebel Bingo Club, the sport is also no longer the preserve of elderly spinsters.
If you are still reading, let me continue to convince you.
My addiction started off with ambivalence – as a slot machine junkie, I was unwilling to get my fix elsewhere. However persuasion and an eagerness to experience all aspects of this culturally diverse city we co-reside in, allowed me to broaden my horizons.
And what a lovely dawn it was.
You may think of bingo as that game frequently advertised on the telly. Or that thing your nan does on a Saturday night, while you aspire to loftier heights! Do not be fooled, my friends! Bingo is a paradise unconquered by our generation.
Therefore let me persuade you by counting the ways in which I love bingo….
1. Bingo is neither needy or clingy but always there in that strong, silent way.
2. Bingo will always surprise you. You never know what opportunities it will bring. Whether it be free chips, karaoke or an actual win.
3. Bingo is willing to hang out with your friends. It is not a snob.
4. You can introduce bingo to your parents. They will get along famously, I assure you.
5. Bingo will always be there on the important occasions birthdays, Christmas’, Valentines…
For these reasons experience this side of Yorkshire. Make bingo your new destination for nights out (perfect pre-Willow), first dates or even to fulfil your gambling addiction. So now go forth beyond those hallowed haunts of students past – your Evil Eyes, your Il Paradisos, your Purple Hazes and cast forth onto bingo.
You’ll never know until you’ve tried it.
Fabulous. Loved it. Cheer Dears x
