Candidate Profiles: Women’s Officer

Emma Hawkens

Having been involved in the Women’s Committee since her first term at University, Hawkens knows how the committee works and what areas need to be improved. She has previously campaigned for better lighting on campus and for the women’s charity Survived to be nominated as a RAG charity.

Her biggest ambition would be to communicate effectively with students in order to ensure successful representation for all women on campus.

She believes her “approachable and enthusiastic” personality would make her the perfect candidate to represent and engage students in tackling gender issues.

Lauren Bray and Zoe Wilkinson

Second years Wilkinson and Bray are running for the position as they strongly believe in breaking the silence which obscures women and redefining the standards set for women by society. Both feel that society’s only ‘demand’ should be the happiness, wellbeing and equality of its ‘members’.
If elected they would like to reintegrate an element of fun into raising awareness of women’s issues through activities such as creative writing workshops and fundraising for local women’s shelters. They would also ensure that male students would be involved as much as possible in their events.
