Helen Marrison is a Politics with International Relations student from Alcuin. During her time at university she has gotten involved in an impressive range of societies. “From a corset-wearing villain with Pantsoc in Central Hall, to broadcasting with URY, playing the trumpet with Concert Band and fighting it out in Doxbridge and Roses, my life at York has gone way beyond doing my degree”
She claims to want the position of student activities officer so as to allow every student to get the most out of the activities offered to them by the University. “From Slackline to Amnesty International, through Music Education and RAG Parade, York Activities are extraordinary and wonderful, and I want to make sure every student gets to feel a part of that. And for those already involved, I want to enable and enhance every ambitious project and career prospect.”
Her manifesto outlines five main policies which appear to be both well researched and achievable. It also manages to capture her personality, portraying a genuinely enthusiastic and charming candidate.
Some of her main policies include using Heslington East for more activities, setting up an alumni grant system to fund new activities ideas and increasing student experience by hosting more big events in the style of Woodstock and Winter Wonderland.
She also promises that she is “not going to shy away from responsibility and is prepared to go all out for Activity interests and ambitions. On a very functionary level, I promise to answer all my emails.”
Tipster’s Odds 5/1
Marrison’s manifesto shows that she has invested in researching her role and has managed to come up with five achievable key policies. Her capability is matched with charm and enthusiasm. However, her lack of previous experience in a position may decrease her chances, especially given the experience and popularity of some of her opponents.
