Peter Warner-Medley is a college tutor for Langwith. For his manifesto he has chosen to go down the popular campaign route of abstract questions supported by abstract policies. “What do you think YUSU’s missing? Vision? Focus? The students? ” asks Medley in the first two lines of his manifesto.
His main policies outline the importance of hearing the voice of “every student.” He believes YUSU should reach out to departments and groups that are currently being left in the dark such as Health Sciences, HYMS, Social Work students and the Centre for Medieval studies. He also suggests strengthening the connection between YUSU officers and students by cutting of their internet once a week and getting them “out talking to people they don’t know”
He promises that if he were to win the election he would keep YUSU student satisfaction at 50% “This is a tough target but we deserve a Union that works hard for us, and I will make YUSU work hard for us.” However, he fails to explain what exactly he will do to maintain student satisfaction.
Peter Warner-Medley concludes his manifesto by claiming that he wants to go beyond YUSU’s current plan to build a Union that represents the interests of students. “why just make it count, when we can make it extraordinary?” he continues, “York is an exciting place to live and an exciting place to study; let’s build a Union that’s exciting, that runs exciting events, provides exciting spaces, puts on exciting and effective protests, and protects colleges. ”
Tipsters Odd’s 8/1
Medley’s manifesto shows energy and passion yet but his previous YUSU loss shows that he’s probably unlikely to claim victory.
