In an extremely one-sided game, Vanbrugh trounced a lacklustre Langwith side who struggled all game to contain their free-scoring opposition.
It did not take long for the men in blue and red to get on the scoresheet, with Rory Sharkey opening the scoring with an accomplished finish. Tom Parish soon doubled his side’s lead and extended his superb form for the 2s with a point blank finish.
It went from bad to worse for Langwith, as Vanbrugh ran riot. Parish soon added to his total, as Langwith again failed to deal with the constant pressure on their back line. Midfielders Andy Hutt and Paul Ong were committed in the middle but to little avail. Parish completed his hat-trick with another close-range finish as Langwith were left reeling.
Langwith, however, did have some cause for hope as a rare attack saw the men in yellow gain a freekick just outside the area. Vanbrugh failed to deal with the resulting ball in and Paul Ong gratefully found the ball fall to his feet, neatly scoring past goalkeeper James Wilson.
Any hopes of a comeback were soon dashed, though, as Vanbrugh turned the screw before half time. In bizarre circumstances ‘keeper Wilson bagged himself a goal with a penalty after Ben Stanier had been fouled by Sam Morley. Stanier also found himself on the scoresheet as his cross-cum-shot sailed over Langwith ‘keeper Craig Burnell.
The onslaught continued after the interval, with Stanier adding his second, and his team’s seventh. The ball fell kindly to him just outside the box and his first-time volley found its way under Burnell.
Vanbrugh, for all their dominance, were still profligate, and Elliot Rous Ross had a number of chances to extend the lead even further. It was of no consequences, though, as Vanbrugh continued to pile on the misery as Parish grabbed his fourth.
Langwith midfielders Luke Holbrook and Kieron Hazell did offer some threat, particularly down the left-wing, with the latter having a decent effort that Wilson watched fly by his left-hand post, but in reality, their side never really looked like troubling the Vanbrugh backline again.
Elliot Rous Ross finally got the goal his toil deserved, placing the ball past a demoralised Burnell. It could have been more, but the otherwise impressive Rob Rix blazed over after Stanier had cut the ball back for him.
It was a torrid morning for Andy Hutt’s men, but Vanbrugh will be pleased with a ruthless performance that put a shine on a successful league campaign.
