The battling women’s 2nds achieved York’s first point of the day after dominating their Lancastrian opposition, and the game started at a great pace. It was only a matter of minutes before York were strutting their stuff at 4-0 up in fact, courtesy of two goals apiece from dangerous attacking pair Jennie England and Rose Hooks.
Lancaster got one back once the game had calmed down, but York restored their four goal advantage before half time, England completing a quick-fire hat-trick and making it 5-1.
Lancaster looked better as the second half begun but it didn’t last. Jenny England used her powerful right boot to add two more to York’s tally before the red rose managed to scrape a goal back. Hooks then made it 8-2 with a goal that seemed to subdue the game, until a flurry of late action saw Lancaster fire in a consolation third, rounding off the scoring at 8-3 and leaving a jubilant York side as deserved winners.
