Rob & Tim Bag Coach Trip Win

Two York students have won the sixth series of Channel 4’s flagship tea-time show, Coach Trip.

Rob Short and Timmy Smith, both of Derwent College, are the first ever pair to have remained on the coach for the full thirty days in the show’s history. They received three out of five votes on the show’s final programme, aired today, gaining votes from second place couple Terry and Hilary, newcomers Sharon and Tressa, and fourth place Sarah and Lucy. The duo were awarded with the prize of another coach trip for their efforts.

They received only one yellow card throughout their time on the programme and whilst on board, travelled to a whole host of exciting destinations, including Milan, Bordeaux and Morocco.

Short, second year French and History student, said winning was “incredible” and he was “chuffed to have won such an amazing programme”.

On the coach with the Derwenters were the defensive Wendy and son Darren, who were swiftly voted off soon after voting began on day five. Another memorable pairing were Jasmine and Rara, who were voted off for unacceptable behaviour whilst in Mimizan. A record five couples walked off the coach without being voted off.

Second year Politics and International Relations student, Dean Knapper, is a huge fan of the series. He told Vision: “Forget about our University Challenge team reaching this year’s final, we really owe our congratulations to the York lads who won Coach Trip. Anyone can sit in a chair and answer questions! In years to come when people ask me if I went to University with any famous or influential people, these guys will be right at the top of my list.”

Rob and Timmy aren’t the only contestants from York to have starred in the show. Charlotte Alexander-Marsh, frequent Panto and Drama Soc actress, managed to last four days on the coach alongside her mum Caroline in series three back in 2009.
