The full list of candidates for the YUSU elections has been released. Vying for the top spot of President of the Union is former Goodricke Chair Tim Ellis, former Halifax President Lydia Blundell and former James JCRC member Aaron Rolph.
Student Activities is equally contested, with current RAG Officer James Croydon, Lemon Press founder Arthur Pitt, as well as the relatively unknown James Anderson, competing for the role.
Incumbents Laura ‘Bo’ Borisovaite and Sam Asfahani are both re-running, for Welfare and York Sport respectively. Bo is challenged by former James Welfare Vice-Chair Robert Hughes, while Asfahani is up against Badminton President Ben McGladdery.
Rounding off the Sabb positions is Academic Affairs, with yet another two-horse race. Politics Course Rep Graeme Osborne is facing Chemistry Course Rep and Faculty Rep Alastair Logan.
The part time officer roles are largely uncontested, Volunteering and Women’s Officer candidates are facing competition. Of the supplementary positions, it’s NUS delegate that has sparked the most interest, with all of five students running, including current Academic Affairs and former Welfare Officer Ben Humphrys.
Starting from the end of next term, the role of Democracy and Services Officer will be dissolved, its responsibilities delegated to YUSU staff and the other Sabbs. That currently leaves the total number of candidates for full-time positions at 12, compared to last year’s 22.
Many students will also be disappointed to hear that there seems to be a distinct lack of the often controversial, but always entertaining joke candidates. Last year Mark Pickard and Peter Saul ran for Women’s Officers, sparking campus-wide debate. Three years ago Tom Scott notoriously won the Presidential race campaigning in character as pirate Mad Cap’n Tom Scott.

You say James Anderson is relatively unknown. Just because you don’t know him yourself that doesn’t mean he’s unknown.. I’d say this Rolph Harris bloke is a bit more unknown.
Scott ran three years ago, not two. Ngwena won two years ago, as well as last year…
Apologies for the error, it has now been corrected.
Well, I’m glad to see that Vision were able to do some proof-reading and some good research.
Thank you for spelling my name correctly :)
A foot?
This year’s election theme’s a *foot*?
HHIS I should have tughoht of that!
