YUSU have had their subvention bid accepted by the University of York, drastically increasing their budget from what they were assigned in term 1.
YUSU submits a subvention bid to the university annually in order to receive the necessary funding to cater for societies, students and events within the university space.
Autumn term’s funding brought restrictions as YUSU were assigned less funds than were needed, thus constricting the expansion and activities many societies had planned for 2020. To make up for this lack of funding, YUSU turned to the YuFund: Kickstart Support Scheme in order to support student groups with their activities.
Despite the financial struggles of YUSU last term, term 2 will see a dramatic rise in funding from the University, as YUSU’s grant funding request has been approved. YUSU will be able to offer student grants come January 2021. The information below highlights key points and dates for this:
- Applications will open in Week 0, Term 2 (w/c 4 January).
- Applications will close Monday, Week 3, Term 2 (25 January).
- Previous funding received in Term 1 will be taken into consideration during the application review process.
- If you apply for funding for a project that is not able to go ahead, funding can be redirected to another project instead; however societies will need liaise with Brian Terry before making any purchases.
More details will follow in January. In addition, any funds that have been granted by KickStart funding for term 1 and remain un-spent, will carry over into term 2 and term 3.
Student Activities Officer Brian Terry gave the following comment.
“I’m really excited that YUSU has been able to secure this funding and that moreover we’ll be able to dedicate a chunk of this funding to student groups as we normally do. The high quality, Covid-safe events our groups put on helped us make the case for this funding so I’m glad we’ll be able to continue to support them financially in the new year.”
