On February 12, I used the @YorkVision twitter account to retweet my own tweet in regards to unsuccessful Union President candidate Joshua Mackenzie.
This was a contravention of YUSU Elections rules regarding media impartiality during campaigning and I apologise for falling short of YUSU’s impartiality expectations.
My opinions on the effects of these rules are well-documented, including in Issue 269’s opinion piece “Stop the Electoral Lies” and I will be submitting a proposal to the Policy Review Group with the aim to have these rules scrapped.
Nonetheless, I accept the consequences of this action. It is also pertinent to note that I acted alone in my capacity of Editor and President and no other individual associated with York Vision was involved with these actions.
