Another University cock up continued lack of impetus for sports facility’s maintenance has resulted in York’s university Basketball players being unable to train or play. Both Basketball hoops in the Main Hall are broken, and have been since the end of last term – whilst the net is also broken.
Despite having the entirety of the summer break to fix the essential equipment, Sport’s centre officials continue to blame “unreliable contractors” for the problems. They also insist that the hoops and the net will be fixed “in the next couple of weeks”, despite the university’s top players having to relocate from the main hall to the tent, for all sporting activity.
A member of the University 1sts Basketball team told Vision, “The University teams have to play in the tent, rather than the main hall, where there is far more space”, she then added “And we still have to pay our York Sport membership fee”.
The problems have also had a detrimental impact on the fledgling College Basketball League with competition for Training slots becoming particularly heated. The result being that some colleges are having to reschedule training sessions from their original times, meaning that many would be team members are unable to attend.
