Complaints have been lodged at the organisation and handling of Derwent’s Big D event last term.
Criticism follows the organiser’s decision to have both headline acts, Chase & Status and Audio Bullys, play at the same time in separate venues, preventing attendees from seeing both acts. This information only became apparent to revellers after they had entered the enclosure.
Students were also left disappointed as Derwent bar reached full capacity before Chase & Status were due to start. Cameron Craig, a second year student from Langwith, told Vision: “I couldn’t get in to see Chase & Status as it was one in one out to get in. I was totally gutted, I love drum and bass and £22 is a lot of money for me.”
Big D organisers and Derwent vice-chairs, Emma Warren and Felicity Saunders, responded to criticism stating: “It is not feasible for the two headliners to play at separate times as there would be almost 1000 people during both sets that would be unable to watch the performance.”
“By having Audio Bullys and Chase & Status perform at the same time we were able to entertain the vast majority of people. It is unfortunate that everyone cannot see both acts however it is a Derwent event and we can only work with these capacities. It has always been the case that the two headliners perform at the same time for this very reason.”
